The restaurant bill – who pays?
In a modern world, really, anything goes, but there is a belief that if a man
asks a girl out, then he pays. It also goes back to the old age division of
skills, the man is the hunter and the girl is the gatherer, therefore the man
brings the food for the girl. That all said and done, here are a few things to
consider:
1. You can both pay, split the bill, and this is especially good to keep in mind
if you are dating and want to keep the relationship on a friendship bases, for
now. However, in saying that, if it is a first date, then it is usually the man
who pays, s he is the one who wants to take control.
2. You can mix it up; one person pays one time and the next the other time, so
it keeps it reasonably even.
3. If you are living together, perhaps one takes care of the grocery bill and
the other the restaurant check.
4. It can all be about personal standards, there are some men who would not
think of letting a girl pay and would be offended and feel uncomfortable to do
so. It may be part of his culture and upbringing.
5. Sometimes, it’s a matter of who has the money, who earns the most; it can
come down to simple economics.
What’s important is that the two of you are in agreement; otherwise problems
with money can put a huge crack in a promising love affair.
